đ¨Whoa-is-me Author Rant đ¨
StartFragmentI am about ready to close my @goodreads Authors account after 1âď¸review for Conquest, a book that is still being written.
At #RT17(@rtbookreviews) Atlanta, many made a point to point out it is under utilized and always among the top 5 in any book related search engine inquiry.
Since home I have made an honest effort in the very little time a day I have. But today was the last straw.
I understand wanting to give the readers control, to an extent. I understand readers feeling that because of this the reviews would be more honest, I mean it's a Reader giving a Reader's opinion controlled by the readers.
Unfortunately there is ZERO control at #Goodreads.
The readers run amok and are not always constructive with their criticism but instead are sometimes cruel, personal (ie. Attack the Authors, not the merit of the work), or in my case make no sense at all.
If you look at the review I include for Death, you would see a woman who bought a book clearly marked and blurbed as a #ParanormalRomance then complained and gave a 2âď¸ rating because it was a Romance.
Multiple times I have had to hunt down a "librarian" to fix this multiple editions issue, but here it is again.
Why do Indie Authors rarely use Goodreads regularly? The MAJORITY of us do NOT speak html, and do not have the time or money to learn! We need plug and play. We need user friendly. We have day jobs, family's, and usually very little time too write and promote as it is.
But I think the thing that pisses me off more than anything... is that 1âď¸ on Conquest. I am not done writing, no one has read it, I only listed the book two days ago, and the Cover Reveal was 2 hours ago when I first shared the link.
Goodreads is a BROKEN system that started as a good idea.
Next time you ask yourselves why more indie authors aren't using Goodreads to communicate to readers... Exhibit A. There needs to be a restructure and reformat of an outdated damaged system that has lost faith of at least this author.
The review for Death was so ridiculous that I found it more humorous than upsetting.
But the fact that I got a 1âď¸ within two hours of releasing the link to Conquest on Goodreads to TBR'ed is disgusting.
I am most likely deleting or deactivating my account.
I need to look into my opinions.
But until they make changes I can't deal with the added anxiety.
I will stop writing first.
I do this for me, because I liked writing, it was another outlet for my escapism. But I have enough to deal with daily, and am having enough trouble finding time to write.
I will just stop if I am no longer having fun. Or write on the side but no longer publish.
Luckily the rest of my feedback resources have been positive or constructive in there criticism. They don't have to love it, but be respectful. That has been my experience everywhere EXCEPT Goodreads. So, I am going to separate with them and keep moving forward.
Oh Happy Cover Release Day to me. (That was sarcasm, in case you missed it. )
